At the beginning of its appearance, this polo shirt was used as a uniform for the sport of polo, which is an equestrian sport that uses a long stick to hit the ball. As many of you may already know, this sport is familiar to the royal and royal families in England. So, by itself, the polo shirt used to be one of the symbols of luxury.

The specialty of this polo shirt itself is suitable for use in various events, from casual to somewhat formal. With cotton, the polo shirt makes the wearer feel relaxed and looks more fashionable.

Getting to Know the Collared Shirt Material

The polo shirt itself is different from the regular shirt. Not only because of the collared design, but in the material of manufacture. This is because its target market is sportswear and menswear. Therefore, the material is made from materials that not only absorb sweat, but also have good breathability. What are the materials used to make a polo shirt?

Material Cotton (Cotton)
Cotton is arguably the most favorite material for clothes or other types of clothing. This is because it absorbs sweat, making it comfortable to wear. Likewise with polo shirts. Lately, cotton has become one of the choices for making polo shirts.

Broadly speaking, cotton is divided into 3 types

  • Combed Cotton

Combed cotton is most commonly found as an ingredient in T-shirts. Its soft and flexible characteristics are very comfortable to wear in everyday life. Usually, this type of material has different thickness levels with codes 20S, 40S, et al. As it turned out, the symbols were a representation of the thickness of the material.

  • Cotton Carded

This material has characteristics that are almost similar to combed cotton. However, the texture of this material is rougher than its sibling. Carded cotton is also thicker, making it more pleasant to wear when the air or the weather is cold.

  • Cotton Bamboo

Bamboo has recently become quite popular in the community. Like other types of cotton, bamboo cotton has a soft material and can absorb sweat. Another special feature of this type of cotton is that it is anti-bacterial and also environmentally friendly.

  • Lacoste Ingredients

Familiar with Lacoste? Yes, the name Lacoste comes from the French company that invented the most famous material for polo shirts. Lacoste itself is increasingly being used for polo shirts since French designer Christopher Lemaire made a more modern design with a more luxurious appearance.

This Lacoste knitting technique makes a polo shirt look neater and more formal. Not only that, the pores contained in this Lacoste material make the material have a good level of breathability.

  • Pique Material

The pique material was invented in the 18th century, then developed by the Lancashire Cotton Industry. This material is made by weaving two pieces of cloth, then finished by weaving the threads.

The technique of making pique material is actually similar to Lacoste, namely by knitting. The difference is, Lacoste has a rectangular knitting pattern and Pique has a hexagon knitting pattern.

Like lacoste material, this pique material also has pores that make the material have good breathability. Suitable for use as sportswear, in addition to polo shirts.

Material CVC (Chief Value Cotton)

CVC material, which stands for Chief Value Cotton, has a combined composition of 55% cotton and 45% polyester or 60% cotton and 40% polyester or 50% cotton and 50% polyester.

Many people think that CVC is a viscose cotton material, but it turns out that the two have different properties. Viscose itself is a type of rayon, which is a semi-synthetic artificial fiber produced and produced from regenerated cellulose. This makes viscose cotton have characteristics similar to rayon, which is less durable than CVC.

CVC, as the name suggests, has many advantages. This type of fabric is stronger because of its combination with polyester. The shrinkage rate of the fabric is lower and it is not easy to fade. It is easier to clean and lasts longer than other materials.

Material Tetoron Cotton (TC)

Tetoron cotton comes from products from two companies in Japan, namely the Teijin Company (Teikoku Jinken) and Toray (Toyo Rayon) Industries. This material has been in production since 1958.

Like CVC, tetoron cotton, or TC for short, consists of polyester and cotton. The difference is, TC material contains more polyester than cotton. In contrast to CVC, which actually contains more cotton.

Generally, this TC material has a composition of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. Because the polyester material is more dominant, this material tends to be less good at absorbing sweat. As a result, this material is hotter than cotton or CVC. However, its advantage is its low shrinkage rate. So, even if washed many times, this TC material will not stretch.

PEPolyester Material

This polyester material is often found in garment production, but is more common for outdoor activities. Its waterproof nature makes unprotected outdoor activities more comfortable.

Try holding your waterproof jacket, that’s polyester. This material itself is a combination of organic materials with Polyethylene Terephathalate (PET) derived from petroleum. Well, this material mixture is then mixed again with cotton.

This polyester material is suitable for polo shirts because it is easy to clean and will withstand sweat that floods after you are physically active. On the other hand, because it is not easy to absorb sweat, this makes the material hotter than ordinary cotton.
